3 Treat Cough and Cold with Home Remedies Honey is a time-honoured remedy for sore throat. Create your remedy at home by mixing 2 teaspoons of honey with herbal tea or warm water and lemon. Honey works in soothing the throat, while lemon helps with congestion. Remedy seems simple but works best. Gargling may help soothe the scratchy throat and break up the mucus that causes cough and cold. Just simply mix 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of salt with 8 ounces of warm water to relieve irritation. Ginger is often used to treat nausea and upset stomach, but it may also calms cough and cold by breaking up phlegm. Have hot liquids that can reduce irritation in your nose, dryness, and mucus in your throat. Turmeric has been used traditionally for many ailments over the years, including cough. Try sipping warm turmeric tea or golden milk. Add a dash of black pepper and some honey for sweetness (if needed). To cure cold better and fast, try steam inhaler at home. Do add 1/2 teaspoon of Vicks Vaporub in your steam inhaler and inhale as much as possile to cure cold immediately.
